I really love these nominees, especially in the comedy category. I was familiar with more of these shows than I was with the shows in part one, but I’m not sure if that made predictions easier or harder. Tune into the UStream of the show tomorrow at 8 PST to find out who won!
Best Drama Series
Game of Thrones
The Good Wife
Prediction: A case could be made for several of these shows. The Americans has been highly praised as was the first half of season five of Breaking Bad. Homeland swept all of the major awards earlier in the year, though many criticized it for being uneven and less impressive than season one. While I think Homeland is a strong contender due to past award success, I’m going to predict that The Americans take home the award.
Best Actor in a Drama Series
Bryan Craston as Walter White (Breaking Bad)
Damian Lewis as Sgt. Nicolas Brody (Homeland)
Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead)
Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens (Justified)
Matthew Rhys as Philip Jennings (The Americans)
Kevin Spacey as Francis “Frank” J. Underwood (House of Cards)
Prediction: I would love it if Timothy Olyphant won since Justified gets so little love during award season but Damian Lewis did have a good year on Homeland and I think he’ll win the title of Best Actor.
Best Actress in a Drama Series
Claire Danes as Carrie Mathison (Homeland)
Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates (Bates Motel)
Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick (The Good Wife)
Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning (Orphan Black)
Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson (Mad Men)
Keri Russell as Elizabeth Jennings (The Americans)
Prediction: I am nearly certain that Claire Danes will be rewarded with another award for her work on Homeland though I think there’s a slight chance that Tatiana Maslany could pull off an upset.
Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut (Breaking Bad)
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jamie Lannister (Game of Thrones)
Michael Cudlitz as Officer John Cooper (Southland)
Noah Emmerich as Stan Beeman (The Americans)
Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder (Justified)
Corey Stoll as U.S. Representative Peter Russo (House of Cards)
Prediction: This is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s year to win for his amazing work this past season on Game of Thrones.
Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan (Dexter)
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones)
Anna Gunn as Skylar White (Breaking Bad)
Regina King as Lydia Adams (Southland)
Monica Potter as Kristina Braverman (Parenthood)
Abigail Spencer as Amantha Holden (Rectify)
Prediction: This has been the toughest category so far for me to predict. My personal pick is for Monica Potter although I think Anna Gunn will win. She has a difficult role to play on Breaking Bad and she does really well with it. She’s definitely earned it.
Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series
Jim Beaver (Justified)
Jane Fonda (The Newsroom)
Martha Plimpton (The Good Wife)
Carrie Preston (The Good Wife)
Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones)
Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy)
Prediction: Carrie Preston had a chance to shine this year as the most unique of all of The Good Wife’s memorable guest stars and I think this award is hers.
Best Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory
Parks and Recreation
Prediction: I know Louie is incredibly loved by critics and The Big Bang Theory had an outstanding year in the ratings, but I really think this award has to go to Parks and Recreation. It’s my favorite show, so I’m biased of course, but I think this could be the year it finally wins.
Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Don Cheadle as Marty Kaan (House of Lies)
Louis C.K. as Louis C.K (Louie)
Jake Johnson as Nick Miller (New Girl)
Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)
Adam Scott as Ben Wyatt (Parks and Recreation)
Jeremy Sisto as George Altman (Suburgatory)
Prediction: I would really love for Adam Scott to win this because he proved that he has one of the best reaction faces in the world on this past season of Parks and Recreation. However, this really should be Jake Johnson’s and I think it will be. As a character, Nick developed a lot during the past season which really showed how talented Jake is.
Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Laura Dern as Amy Jellicoe (Enlightened)
Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day (New Girl)
Lena Dunham as Hannah Horvarth (Girls)
Sutton Foster as Michelle Simms (Bunheads)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer (Veep)
Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope (Parks and Recreation)
Prediction: I’d love for either Amy or Zooey to win again, but I think this year’s winner will be from a cable show. I expect Julia Louis-Dreyfus to take home the award but I wouldn’t be surprised if Laura Dern won.
Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Max Greenfield as Schmidt (New Girl)
Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz (The Big Bang Theory)
Alex Karpovsky as Ray Ploshansky (Girls)
Adam Pally as Max Blum (Happy Endings)
Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer (Parks and Recreation)
Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir (Community)
Prediction: This race is between Max Greenfield, Simon Helberg, and Chris Pratt. All three had strong years that saw good character growth that allowed them to show off their talent. I think this will be Simon Helberg’s year. We saw a large range of emotions out of him plus some hilarious voice impressions.
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Carly Chaikin as Dalia Royce (Suburgatory)
Kaley Cuoco as Penny (The Big Bang Theory)
Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy (Modern Family)
Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz (The Big Bang Theory)
Eden Sher as Sue Heck (The Middle)
Casey Wilson as Penny Hartz (Happy Endings)
Prediction: I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this will belong to Casey Wilson. Penny is so loved on Happy Endings and I think her comedic abilities are recognized by critics, even if it isn’t by a general audience.
Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series
Melissa Leo (Louie)
David Lynch (Louie)
Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory)
Patton Oswalt (Parks and Recreation)
Molly Shannon (Enlightened)
Patrick Wilson (Girls)
Prediction: Personally, I would give the award to Patton Oswalt because he made me want to see his character again on Parks and Rec. However, I think this award will go to Bob Newhart.
Who you do want to win tomorrow night? Who do you think will win?
